![]() ![]() I can provide any other information needed. So my question is, is there anything else I can try, to get my laptop to be able to actually read the HDD? Or is there something wrong with my laptop that's disabling it to be able to actually read the HDD, if other devices are able to do so? I also tried plugging the HDD into my TV and even the TV recognised it. After that, I just formatted the HDD in disk management and assigned a drive letter. the software to diagnose problems with Seagate and Maxtor drives. I tested it on my old Windows 7 Acer laptop and even though it did the same thing as when I first tried it on my newer laptop (not being recognised), I was able to go into cmd, diskpart, select the disk, clean the disk, then create a partition. all data from a drive that won't boot to another device), SeaTools for Windows. The issue is more to do with my laptop I am thinking though. The only drive that is recognised on my laptop, in any program, is only my internal HDD. It doesn't show at all in device management, there was no hidden drive for it in device manager, it doesn't show up in cmd when I try the diskpart operation, didn't show up in Seatools, have connected to different USB ports etc. I have spent 5+ hours trying to fix this issue, so have basically tried everything. The very first time I plugged it into my laptop, it installed, but the only sign of it on my laptop was the USB connection noise, the safely remove hardware and eject media logo in the taskbar and the device showing in device manager. My problem is my Acer laptop (Windows 10) isn't recognising a brand new Seagate 2TB external hard drive. You can use it to create a second partition for the capacity above 2.This problem has probably been asked thousands of times, but every time I read solutions in forums, I cannot find a single answer. DiscWizard software can install a device driver which opens the full capacity of a 3TB.Windows XP sees a 3TB drive as 800GB on boot or data drives.Windows systems with Legacy BIOS and MBR boot drives are limited to 2.2TB partitions.Intel RST device drivers before v10.1 do not support 3TB disk drives.Download SeaTools Legacy Tools Use these legacy tools to diagnose hard drives and manage SSDs. Download SeaTools Bootable Use this kit to create a bootable USB that uses SeaTools to diagnose hard drives and monitor SSDs. Windows 10/8/8.1/7 and Vista can mount a GPT non-booting data drive Download SeaTools 5 (Linux) Use this Linux version of the SeaTools GUI to diagnose hard drives and monitor SSDs.Windows 10/8/8.1/7 and Vista can only boot GPT on systems with UEFI BIOS.This will allow us to view the drive’s health. Now click on Disk Management on the left hand side. Document the disk number provided in this window (Disk 1, Disk 2, etc). Windows 10/8/8.1/7 and Vista support GPT 3TB single partitions Right click on your external drive listed under Disk Drives.Quick facts about Windows and 3TB drives: This is the Windows native solution for booting a 3TB drive to a single partition. Windows 10/8/8.1/7 64-bit and Vista 64-bit operating systems support booting from UEFI and GPT without the need of a non-Microsoft device driver. UEFI BIOS desktop systems are new since 2011. Windows can only boot a GPT partition on a new type of BIOS called UEFI. Seagate Seatools program not detecting hard drives The hard drives are recognized by the computer in disk management and file explorer, but when I scan with seatools it only recognizes the hard drive within the computer, not any of the ones on the usb port. You can use GPT today on any Windows 10/ 8.1/8/7 and Vista system as a non-booting data drive. GUID Partition Tables (GPT) can define drives larger than 2.2TB. The device driver mounts the capacity above 2.2TB with another MBR which looks to the system as a second virtual “physical” device. Two partitions will be necessary because of the MBR limitation. A 3TB disk drive in a legacy BIOS and Window system will need a DiscWizard device driver to access the full capacity of a 3TB disk drive. Windows operating systems that boot from an MBR are therefore limited to 2.2TB per MBR. The MBR Partitions can define a disk drive capacity up to 2.2TB. This type of BIOS uses a Master Boot Record (MBR). ![]() Most legacy systems built before 2011 have a traditional PC BIOS. ![]()
